Dentistry

Have you ever heard of dental restoration?

We have good Oral Health when our teeth are free of pathologies. But unfortunately, it is common for people to have health problems related to their teeth.

Dentistry is focused on restoring the dental structure lost due to tooth decay or dental trauma. Thus, the procedures performed by Dentistry, commonly known as restorations, are responsible for restoring the original shape and colour of the teeth.

What does Dentistry treat?

Tooth decay and dental trauma can damage teeth in a very particular way. Thus, Dentistry is responsible for the following:

  • Treating teeth with primary or secondary caries lesions;
  • Treating fractured teeth;
  • Closing diastemas (small spaces between teeth);
  • Restoring teeth with endodontic treatment;
  • Treat teeth whose shape does not please the patient (small shape changes);
  • Increasing the bite for occlusal stabilisation.

What is tooth decay?

Dental caries, also known as caries lesions,  is our society’s most common oral pathology. It is a disease of bacterial origin but can occur due to several factors. In its initial phase, it is asymptomatic, which makes it more dangerous.

If it is not treated in time, caries can lead to the destruction of teeth. This is because the bacteria convert into acids strong enough to demineralise the tooth enamel, making small holes in the tooth surface, which gradually grow.

Treatment is the best option.

If you know or suspect that you have dental caries, the right thing to do is, without a doubt, to seek treatment from a dentist who specialises in Dentistry.

The advantages of having the treatment are:

  • Lower risk of infection;
  • Relief from dental sensitivity or pain;
  • Improved aesthetics and restoration of function;
  • Reinforcement of the dental structure.
